Driven by compassion, fighting the pain of poverty and systemic exploitation in Pakistan.
Our Drive
At the heart of the United for Community Development (UCD) is a profound understanding of the pain of poverty. Poverty is not just a lack of financial resources; it is a stripping of human dignity, a denial of basic rights, and a systemic trap that preys on the most vulnerable.
In the rural brick kilns of Punjab, this pain is generational. Families facing sudden illness, starvation, or crises are forced to accept "Peshgi" (advances)—trading their freedom and the future of their children for sheer survival. The physical toll of molding clay under the scorching sun is heavily outweighed by the emotional devastation of knowing their children will inherit their unpayable debts.
"We do not just see laborers; we see families enduring an excruciating cycle of deprivation. Our work begins where their pain is deepest."
UCD was founded by a coalition of human rights advocates, legal experts, and community leaders who refused to look away from the modern-day slavery unfolding in our own backyards.
We aggressively challenge fraudulent accounting and illegal high-interest loans in court, acting as a shield for illiterate workers who cannot defend themselves against predatory kiln owners.
When legal avenues are exhausted, we use donor funding to execute one-time "Peshgi Liquidations," legally buying the freedom of families and severing their ties to the kiln forever.
Rescue is only step one. Through our Kiln Schools, health camps, and vocational training, we ensure freed families have the tools to rebuild their lives with dignity.
It takes a unified community to break systemic exploitation. Your contribution directly alleviates the pain of poverty for families in desperate need.
